Quadramet®

Quadramet®

Quadramet is indicated for the relief of pain in patients once it has been confirmed that a specific type of metastatic bone lesion exists based on the results of a radionuclide bone scan (a diagnostic test to detect if cancer has spread to the bone). This means that Quadramet can be considered for relief of pain once the doctor has been able to visualize areas where a patient's cancer has spread to bone tissue. Quadramet is administered as a single injection into a vein, usually on an outpatient basis.

In clinical trials, patients receiving Quadramet demonstrated significant reductions in pain scores compared with patients who did not receive Quadramet. Patients who respond to Quadramet might begin to notice the onset of pain relief one week after the injection with the most pain relief generally occurring at three to four weeks after injection. Some patients have felt a temporary increase in bone pain shortly after injection. This temporary increase in bone pain is usually mild and happens within 72 hours of the Quadramet injection. Other pain medications can usually treat this pain.

Patients who experience a reduction in pain may be encouraged by their doctors to decrease their use of other medications they are taking to control their pain. In clinical trials of Quadramet, patients who experienced relief of pain were generally able to decrease the amount of stronger prescription drugs (such as morphine and oxycodone) they were taking. However, most patients, including those who feel less pain following a Quadramet injection, may still need to take other medications to help control their pain.

Quadramet is available in the U.S. please visit the US Quadramet site.

USA - Important Safety Information:
Quadramet causes bone marrow suppression. Before Quadramet is administered, consideration should be given to the patient's current clinical and hematologic status and bone marrow response history to treatment with myelotoxic agents. Because of the unknown potential for additive effects on bone marrow, Quadramet should not be given concurrently with chemotherapy or external beam radiation therapy unless the clinical benefits outweigh the risks.
